Tatiana Wins Best of Opposite Sex in Gulfport, MS Dec 7, 2014

We had a fun weekend in Gulfport, MS showing off. My little brownie, Juno, came to experience the sights and sounds but did not show.
Clover (Cadeau Luck of the Draw) won Reserve Winner's with me showing her on Saturday. On Sunday, Tatiana (Cadeau Goddess of the Dream de NOLA) won her first AKC point! It was her first time in the show ring. Her co-breeder & co-owner, Tabatha of NOLA Standards took her into the class. After that, I showed her in both the winners ring and the variety ring for her next 2 wins, pushing her up to the best bitch in the standard poodle entry that day. It wasn't a huge entry, but she did beat 3 other girls, one of them being her half-sister Flambeau, who had won the previous day. It was very exciting for me, as her breeder and her handler for the day, to earn the win with my girl. She was groomed competitively by Tabatha & didn't even flinch when the judge, in her long cloak and hoodie, came over to examine the pup.

In AKC conformation, poodles are judged against others of the same sex. This includes a physical exam in which the judge opens the dog's mouth and inspects the bite and dentition. The judge will then feel the dog's chest, front and rear angulation, topline, and tail set. It is very "hands-on." Once that exam is complete, the judge will have the handler move the dog so they can assess its movement coming, going, and a side picture. Finally, the handler will "free-bait" the dog for the judge, take it back around the ring and set it up in a "stacked" position. Credit for Tatiana's training for this big day must be given to Tabatha. She was a dream to show, and her practice really paid off. The 3 ribbons pictured on her represent her 3 wins: 1) Class win; 2) Winner's Bitch over the other class winners ; 3) Best of Opposite sex to Best of Variety (a male winner). She was the best female in the judge's eyes out of the 4 bitches entered.
