"Zydeco" formerly "Patty" gets a furever home!

One of the hardest parts about being a breeder, especially of a large breed like standard poodles, is keeping the numbers in check. When your goals are to produce exemplary models of the breed, you can't always tell everything you need to know at 8 weeks of age - especially when it comes to picking your next champion. Your heart and your home are full, and it's the time to make tough choices! I am fortunate enough to have some amazing friends in the breed who don't mind raising a puppy while we allow it to mature some. We call these "guardian homes." In service dogs, they are called "puppy raisers."Zydeco is showing her sweet expression to her new parents.

When Jacki and Armani gave me a gorgeous litter, there were 3 girls we looked really hard at keeping. One went to co-breeder Betty Brown and is safely and happily tucked away in such a "guardian" home until her show ring debut. One is my Clover, who I sort of knew at 5 weeks wasn't going anywhere, and the 3rd was little "Patty." . She was absolutely beautiful, with a sweet expression, big ole chest and gorgeous, plush puppy coat. Her guardian mama Melissa was doing an incredible job of socializing her and keeping her coat, and she was turning into a really well-rounded young lady. As gorgeous as she is, she wasn't quite better than her parents combined, and I was having a hard time showing both of the puppies by myself, so i had to make a decision.

You can't realistically show and finish every show quality puppy.  :( At the end of the day, you pick your stand outs and let the rest go. As a baby, Patty had 2 show homes that went remiss through no faults of mine or hers. She spent 5 wonderful months with my good friend, learning how to be a great house and show dog. I had hopes to get her shown as a puppy and at PCA, but I just could not feasibly do it on my own. I talked it over with her guardian and we decided that letting her be someone's pet would be best for her.
So when I decided to place Patty, I knew just who I was calling first. I met Margo Clark at Petfest with her colorful mini "Zuka." I knew she and her other half, Ace, had lost their beloved white standard "Zao" earlier that year and were looking to fill the empty spot left in their hearts and home. It didn't take long to see that little "Patty," now "Zydeco" was going to fit right in! They are absolutely devoted dog parents. I think we all hit the jackpot. :)
She has a 2 groomers for parents, a colorful little mini sister and even her own pet bunny! She has been all over the city in just a few days and is being lavishly spoiled with toys and attention. She now lives with Margo & Ace of New Orleans - 2 long time standard lovers and will be the unofficial mascot (along with mini poodle Zuka) of businesses Southbound Design & Color My Pup! Look for #colormypup on Instagram, and you can follow along Zydeco's adventures with #zydecotravels and #zukatravels! Cheers!

Tatiana Wins Best of Opposite Sex in Gulfport, MS Dec 7, 2014

We had a fun weekend in Gulfport, MS showing off. My little brownie, Juno, came to experience the sights and sounds but did not show.
Clover (Cadeau Luck of the Draw) won Reserve Winner's with me showing her on Saturday. On Sunday, Tatiana (Cadeau Goddess of the Dream de NOLA) won her first AKC point! It was her first time in the show ring. Her co-breeder & co-owner, Tabatha of NOLA Standards took her into the class. After that, I showed her in both the winners ring and the variety ring for her next 2 wins, pushing her up to the best bitch in the standard poodle entry that day. It wasn't a huge entry, but she did beat 3 other girls, one of them being her half-sister Flambeau, who had won the previous day. It was very exciting for me, as her breeder and her handler for the day, to earn the win with my girl. She was groomed competitively by Tabatha & didn't even flinch when the judge, in her long cloak and hoodie, came over to examine the pup.

In AKC conformation, poodles are judged against others of the same sex. This includes a physical exam in which the judge opens the dog's mouth and inspects the bite and dentition. The judge will then feel the dog's chest, front and rear angulation, topline, and tail set. It is very "hands-on." Once that exam is complete, the judge will have the handler move the dog so they can assess its movement coming, going, and a side picture. Finally, the handler will "free-bait" the dog for the judge, take it back around the ring and set it up in a "stacked" position. Credit for Tatiana's training for this big day must be given to Tabatha. She was a dream to show, and her practice really paid off. The 3 ribbons pictured on her represent her 3 wins: 1) Class win; 2) Winner's Bitch over the other class winners ; 3) Best of Opposite sex to Best of Variety (a male winner). She was the best female in the judge's eyes out of the 4 bitches entered.

We Had a Blast at Petfest - November 2, 2014

Jefferson SPCA sponsors an event called "Petfest" every year at Lafreneire Park in Metairie, LA. The various local dog groups have tents and booths, games, raffles, and contests to raise funds for clubs and rescues. While I belong to a handful of local organizations, I spent my day in the Creole Poodle Rescue Booth, where my newest champion Camille and our friends welcomed visitors into the booth to spend a few bucks for rescue or meet adoptable Creole Poodle Pets and their foster parents. It was a glorious day, and we were able to raise some much needed funds for rescue by selling our popular Creole Poodle Club Tee shirts (we still have some available!), baked goods, dog beds, and more donated items. Enjoy the photos, and please consider donating to Creole Poodle Rescue or a local rescue in your area. If you have any interest in our adoptable rescues, email creolepoodlerescue@yahoo.com

Irina "Pina" Pinkusevich Seminar was a Huge Success for Creole Poodle Club & Rescue

Thanks to Creole Poodle Club Members & Creole Poodle Rescue foster parents for sharing the weekend with us at Fleur de Paws. Our event also attracted local groomers as well as professionals from the Northshore. We had a fabulous time learning about the different poodle trims, working on the rescue dogs (who were all adopted shortly after) & learning fancy pet trims on various breeds. Pina & her enthusiastic assistant, Lulu, were charming, knowledgeable, and patient. Our event was able to raise much needed funds for the Creole Poodle Rescue, who relies entirely on volunteers, fosters, and donations to get their important work done!

New Champion! Camille!

Cadeau Poodles welcomed back home our newest champion CH Olympia La Dame aux Camelias "Camille"
After winning her 4 pt major last Sept as a puppy, I sat my girl out for some maturity and coat growing time- It definitely paid off. As soon as she was ready, I sent her for a trial run with the master Mrs. Sarah Perchick at the OK dog shows and Camille started knocking it out of the park under Sarah's exceptional care and guidance. Just fourteen calendar days later, Camille was on her way home from the shows, a retired showdog and AKC Champion! Yay Camille. She has resumed sleeping on all of her favorite pillows, cuddling with me, and has the added bonus of the pups here to play with her. Life is good, no?
